Electric in the dark. ✨ Sodalite has a beautifully structured and unusual chemistry. 🧪 Chemical Formula Na₈(Al₆Si₆O₂₄)Cl₂ Let’s break that down: Na = Sodium Al = Aluminum Si = Silicon O = Oxygen Cl = Chlorine Sodalite belongs to the feldspathoid group. It forms a framework of aluminum and silicon tetrahedra (AlO₄ and SiO₄) linked together in a cage-like structure. Inside those cages: Sodium ions sit for balance. Chloride ions are trapped — which is unusual for silicate minerals. That trapped chlorine is part of what makes sodalite special.
