Description
This palm-sized verdite specimen shows excellent, rich green colour with subtle tonal variation ranging from deep emerald green to softer turquoise-green shades. The colour is evenly developed across the surface, giving the piece strong visual appeal and making it a good representative example of quality verdite material.
The stone is natural and unpolished, with a fine-grained, compact texture and irregular broken faces that clearly display its internal structure. Verdite is a chromium-rich metamorphic rock, closely related to fuchsite-bearing quartzites, and is valued for both its colour and durability.
This material originates from the Rustenburg area, the classic and best-known source of verdite. South African verdite is internationally recognised for its colour intensity and suitability for carving, lapidary work, and display.
